A freelance Illustrator from Brighton, Owen Davey studied Illustration at Falmouth University graduating in 2009. From here his work has touched all over the globe, working for some big named clients such as BBC, Jamie Oliver, Microsoft, New York Times, Orange, Persil and The Guardian. Owen’s passion for art started at a young age which has developed over time to become talented, genuine, down to earth illustrator.
His work is inspired by computer game art, early 20th century design, space and nature. He creates a mixture of different designs using both traditional and contemporary illustrations, using warm and pleasing colours which portray a wonderful and imaginative world which he invites you into. He is a master at engaging the audience by creating textures and patterns that really captures the eye. Taking his inspiration from the internet, books and social media, Owen’s career kicked off before he even graduated, receiving an email from The Guardian newspaper, he was commissioned to draw a set of self-help books.
Owen initially had to promote himself to get heard in the crowded marketplace, but over time he became a trusted illustrator who met deadlines and gained a wealth of high profile clients. His creative illustrations, excellent time management and experience has made Owen a very successful illustrator.
His illustrations can be found in all kinds of areas such as advertising, editorial, children’s books and much more.
Two years after graduating, Owen won the ‘Junior Magazine Most Promising New Talent Award’. Dubbed as one of his proudest moments, Owen’s debut children’s picture book, ‘Foxly’s Feast’, lead him to win the award for the book he produced in 2010. His book then went on to becoming printed in French and creating another book only a year later. Below is his up and coming book, Laika. A true story about a dog who lives on the streets of Moscow, who is chosen to be the first animal ever to be launched into orbit.
Owen also worked for the high profile client of Orange. He worked on a project called ‘The Feed’, which he produced a number of illustrations for their brand, website and overall identity.
