It’s always important for creatives to think out of the box, to influence your viewers by creating art which is unique and captivating. To get noticed in a busy marketplace, it’s important for your work to be heard from people all over the world. But what if it isn’t coming naturally to you, or if your having a bad spell, what can we do to boost creativity and reignite the work which we produce? I’m going to be talking through a few hints and steps to help you through, and discover some ways to boost your creativity.
Take A Break
One of the first tips I’m going to give you is to take a break. I know it’s probably the last thing you want to do, as you might just want to crack on with the set project or brief, but if you’ve been working for a number of hours and your not getting anywhere, this is best.
It’s important to take a break every now and again, and especially if your not your usual creative self. Go for a walk, a bath, watch t.v, just do something which is completely different than what your currently doing. By switching your mind off, and thinking about something else, it allows you to have that ‘Eureka’ moment, as your not pushing yourself too much to think of that golden idea.
Mind Mapping
By thinking conceptually and out of the box it allows you to be seen in a crowded market, which mind mapping allows you to achieve. Mind mapping makes you think of ideas which you might not of originally thought of, resulting in unique and fresh ideas. Start with your word which you want to get some ideas for and relate words from this word, which can really influence your creative thinking.
Get influences, inspiration, collect facts and write these related words down on paper, which can all help you with the set brief or task at hand. You’ll begin to think of unique ideas which are your own, and most importantly creative.
Discussing And Critiquing
If your finding it difficult to boost your creativity, a golden tip is to talk to others about it. This may be your tutors, family and friends, and even close neighbours. By discussing your brief to them, they may be able to expand your ideas which you’ve already got, or agree with a particular idea you’ve got, and raise your confidence in your idea.
By discussing and letting other people critique your work, it allows you to form a new perspective with your work, which is leading to the next tip.
Take Another Approach
By freeing up your mind, like taking a break, is important in being creative. Taking another approach is important with this, as you can change your usual way of working, and discover something magical.
If your too used to mind mapping or other ways of working, but it’s not working like usual, it’s important to take other approaches. Switch your perspective from written to visual is often crucial to this, so look at images and photographs, draw the subject and collect images for mood boards. By switching to visual, it allows you to work out areas which you could expand on, within your written research, and gain even more ideas and unique concepts.
Knowledge
Having more knowledge over the subject, is always a positive move, but it can also serve you in being more creative. If your trying to work around a tight brief that you cant get your head around, it’s always good to have knowledge of the subject at hand.
For example, if your working on a ad campaign for soap, you need to gain knowledge of everything it does, how long it lasts, what it’s made with, who uses it .etc. By asking questions of the subject, you can start to relate these to your subject and your brief in hand.
Key Tips
- If you finding it difficult, take a break and refresh your mind
- Mind map your thoughts onto paper, and see what areas you find out more about
- Ask your family and friends for guidance on your ideas, and see what they can come up with
- Switch your written language, to visual, and see if that can have a positive affect
- Gain a good knowledge over the subject, so you can discover unique ways of showing it in a different light
