We’re always looking to improve our craft, and push our work forward to the next stage. Even if this is your long term goal, we all go though periods of a lack of motivation, and therefore goals become cloudy.
Well I’m going to get you back on track and help you through this difficult period, sharing advice and help motivate you to keep creating and producing work which can make you a better artist or designer, and why it’s important to keep practising your craft.
Your Always Progressing
Even if you only produce one quick drawing a day, you’ll always be improving. The improvement may not be as fast if you were perhaps producing 3-4 drawings a day, but your always improving, and never regressing as an individual, unless you stop drawing for a long period of time. Whatever you want to practise (as it might not be drawing) keep doing it and trying new things out, and over time you’ll see the improvement in yourself and art.
Confidence In Your Work
As you begin to see improvements, you won’t be that shy or nervous about showing your work to others, as you know that your getting better and better, and have decent work on show. Because of this confidence in yourself and your craft, you are getting out there and showing your work to others, which can only benefit you. This could be sharing your imagery, other people talking about your work, and following you on a daily basis.
Mistakes Are A Great Thing
You may look at your mistakes and think of it in a negative way, but flip this association and try and think of it as a positive within your work. With practising your craft daily, you eventually come across mistakes in your work.
Doing this however, it allows you to not do the same thing in the future, and that’s because you’ve taken the time to practise your craft. A mistake is a sign of learning and progressing, so love mistakes in your work.
Pro Active And Commissionable
If your constantly updating and improving your craft all the time, not only does it have the benefits which I’ve listed above, it also gives the nature that your proactive and committed to your craft. Potential clients will witness this, if your active as a self promoter, and they have no excuse than to commission you, if you’re the person their looking for.
Clients see this passion that you have for your craft and want to be a part of it. The know that you’ll put in 100% into the work which you produce for them, and would look to impress them.
Become A Legend
If you look at some past and present masters of art and design, they were always looking to further practise, refine and make better art for themselves. Picasso is a great example of this as he always practised with new ways of working, and refined his craft, and became one of the most famous artists the world has ever seen. But why can’t this be you! Constantly practise and refine, and if your still lacking that creative buzz, think about what you can be and keep creating. I know you can do it!
